I was coming up the stairs to the office a week or two ago and I saw something that made me just about as proud of our little practice as I have ever been. One of our patients had fallen in the (extensive) roadworks here in Belfast. The sun had got in her eyes and she misjudged a step. She told us that she couldn’t think of anywhere else to go and she knew that we would be able to help. As I came up the stairs, one of our optical assistants was kneeling on the floor, cleaning and dressing a significant cut on her knee. I am unspeakably proud that our patient knew instinctively that we would be a good source of help. I am also touched by how far we go out of our way to help people…sometimes the world today feels cold and uncaring. It doesn’t have to be like that.

What should you do when your child has a red eye?

As all us lucky parents know only too well, young children get red eyes very frequently (and because it’s really contagious, us parents get it too). Having said this, there are a few bits of information that make managing this much much easier. A new baby – a truly overwhelming response

When I first got this new website I thought that I would be updating it really regularly but as ever, life takes over. The last few months have been busier than ever because we have been preparing for the arrival of a new family member. Martha Petticrew entered our world on Becky’s 30th birthday on 19/1/10. Mother and baby are doing exceptionally well, although I am writing this post is time about 4.ooam! I can’t think of anything more fragile or more important than life itself, and we now have a new one…truly amazing.

I struggle to express just how hugely touched we have all been by the time, effort and money our patients have spent on cards and gifts for ‘Our Mar’ (I am reliably informed that if this nickname sticks, I am in serious trouble)! I am incredibly proud of what we do here at Petticrew Optometrists, but I never imagined that our patients would care so much about us. Thank you all so very much.

What makes a good pair of glasses?
